Top 5 YouTube Channels for College Students

By Brooke Smoke on March 22, 2017

As a college student, sometimes you need a little something extra to help you grasp a concept. YouTube videos can be a great way to supplement your learning. Here is a list of five YouTube channels you need to be subscribed to if you’re in college.

1. Crash Course

I can’t tell you how many college courses Crash Course has got me through! Crash Course is an educational channel that was started by Hank and John Green (you may know them as the VlogBrothers). It covers history, English, philosophy, psychology, chemistry, and many, many other courses. Not only are these videos super thorough, but they’re just very fun to watch as well.

With many of my courses, I check if there’s a Crash Course series for them because this channel provides such excellent insights into what I’m learning. And you know it’s awesome because it’s the Green brothers. Check it out!

2. The School of Life

The School of Life is a channel that mainly focuses on the humanities (philosophy, psychotherapy, literature, art, etc.). They’re devoted to teaching “emotional education,” and their videos seem to be themed around living a meaningful life. As their description says, “We’re about wisdom, emotional intelligence, and self-understanding.”

I found this channel extremely helpful as a study supplement for my philosophy class. Their videos on Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle were brilliant.

3. Thomas Frank/College Info Geek

Thomas Frank is dedicated to making videos to help college students out. He hands out study tips, note-taking strategies, advice on taking tests, and much more. It seems to me that — especially for new college students — this information is priceless.

I was introduced to his channel by my orientation instructor and his videos were essential in getting me through midterms this year.

4. Khan Academy

I don’t know what to say about Khan Academy other than that they probably have a video for everything. They have playlists for virtually every subject (I didn’t check, but probably literally every subject too) and have proved to be an invaluable resource for me.

5. Ted-Ed

Ted-Ed is a treasure trove of mini, animated lessons. They’re fun to watch, fascinating, and extremely helpful.

While the videos aren’t separated by course or subject (like Crash Course or Kahn Academy) there are so many great videos that you’re bound to find something helpful.

So there you have it! My top five best YouTube channels for college students! Feel free to comment with your favorites below!
